META Stuff

This may be of interest to those of you who may have trouble posting comments. A little while ago I spent several fruitless minutes  trying to comment -- I went around in circles having to sign in over and over again to my Google account and then instead of coming up as from The Broad it came up Anonymous. This has happened a few times. Anyway, I decided to try again using Google Chrome instead of the new Internet Explorer 9 and had no problems. In fact I've had a lot of trouble with IE9 and so have changed my default browser to Chrome.

  1. I'm still on IE8, Broad and DH doesn't want any other browsers(!) so your way is out of reach for me :-) I've found the only way I can comment under my name is not to stay signed in to Google (i.e. not ticking the little box to Remember Me when I log in)

My Blogger problem since Wednesday morning is a HUGE increase in the number of visitors shown by Blogger Stats, but not shown by my other stat counters. Weird!

  2. It is possible to use Chrome -- or any other browser for that matter -- without changing your default browser. You would have to download it to your computer and click 'no' when it asks if you want it to be your default browser. I just kept the icon on my desktop and used it from time to time when frustrated with IE. But I am now trying Chrome as my default to see how I like it.

  3. I've been happily using Firefox as my browser for ages.

  4. I, too, am well satisfied with Firefox.

  5. I've done the very same thing, and no longer have the problem.

  6. I gave up on IE years ago for a variety of reasons. I use Firefox and Chrome. In my opinion they are both far superior to IE.

  7. G'day Broad. That's good advice. I will try Google Chrome. I have had to post comments by not ticking the box like Perpetua does. Take care. Liz...

  8. Thanks for the tip, Broad! I'll be sure to look into it. Like Perpetua, I've noticed a large increase in pageviews that doesn't totally make sense as I've had a hectic week and haven't written a new post lately.

  9. Thanks for all the advice, folks. I managed to nag DH into letting me install Chrome last night and it works fine with all the blog things, though I'm not too keen on the rather pale look of the print. This morning, just to be awkward, my Followers are showing up in IE8, but the Comments bug still hasn't been fixed if I stay signed-in. Sigh....

Kathy, it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one with weird stats. According to Blogger I've had more visitors this week than in the whole of May and that just can't be right. I've only posted once and that was back on Sunday.

  10. Changed to Firefox when I bought this laptop in January; also installed OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office very happy I changed both.

I too am puzzled at the sudden increase of visitors showing in my stats...I only post every 3 to 4 days.
