Lull

What is it with me? Writer's block, I guess. It's not as if 'nothing' is happening -- it's just that 'nothing' seems to be happening when I sit before the computer and consider blogging. Since July I have been bemoaning the fact that my connections to the Internet were so limited -- then I had plenty on my mind to blog about. Now here I am with 24/7 connectivity and my mind is blank -- for days.

The Man -- who is from Mars by the way -- turned 70 last week and though the family celebrations comes later this  month, we had a nice little celebration with youngest son on the day. Also, there was a little surprise party with the Polish family with the 3 little girls. Mama even baked one of her special birthday cakes and we all sat around the dining room table and the little girls translated for the parents. It transpired that both parents are having to travel to Poland (tomorrow) and without a word to me the Man from Mars offered to have us take care of the girls for the five days they are away! He has a habit of making grand gestures like this without a 'by-your-leave' and quiet word with me first. This has made me very grumpy!

So in order to feel better and with a big family gathering next week, I've been shopping. I found a beautiful silk dress that was perfect -- except for one thing -- it was too short -- too short for my legs to carry off -- that's for sure. So I took it back and found another one (£40 cheaper, too!) and ordered a new winter coat, too! And then I found some comfortable high heel shoes that are really very attractive and stylish!

In the meantime, later today, we have guests -- little ones. The Man from Mars is going to be very busy and he so hates early mornings, too. As long as he doesn't wake me up it will be fine...

  1. Hi Broad,

LOL! I'm familiar with the blank mind syndrome, as it's happened to me a few times too. Hope the next few days go well and remember to remind The Man that this was HIS idea :-) The new clothes sound lovely. I'm so envious of your ability to wear high heels - I haven't worn them for donkey's years....

  2. It's probably a good thing that the man does something like this every now and again, as this just reminds you that he is indeed from Mars.
Enjoy the celebrations and your new clothes.

  3. @Perpetua: You may be sure that the 'high' heels are very high! M&S has this 'Insolia' that is supposed to support your foot in such a way that you can wear them comfortably -- we shall see and I shall report. Thankfully, I now have a dress that is long enough that I can sit down respectably ;-) when and if I need to -- it also helps that said party is at my brother-in-law's house -- so worst case scenario I'll kick 'em off!

  4. @Gaynor: The trouble with Martians is that it's never just 'now and then'!!

  5. My challenge is that of "what's suitable for a family friendly blog?" There are many things floating through that are nobody else's business. And, of course, there's the issue of stringing the words together so they make some kind of sense.

  6. Make sure The Man from Mars does all the cooking and cleaning and entertaining of his young guests. I guess we all need to have little ones around now and then.

  8. @all: just had the sweetest cuddle from the youngest of the cutie pies. They arrived with special food prepared by Mama -- enough that I won't have to cook for at least two if not three nights :-)

So far the Man from Mars has been plenty busy!!!

  9. G'day Broad. My mother used to say that at times she would like to "spit" at my father when his mouth opened before the brain engaged. Anyway, I do hope you enjoy the new clothes and shoes. Take care. Liz...
