Where Was I Last Sunday?

After a lovely few days visiting friends, we stopped by for an all too brief visit to a very British place...

Charming, but a litle dated, don't you think?
There's a clue here, beside the baggage...
You Brits may know 'why' the clock is famous,
but do you know where I was and what I encountered there?

  1. If memory serves me right, I think it is Carnforth, where 'Brief Encounter' was filmed.

  2. I have lived far too long out of the UK, I have not got a clue but it looks interesting. Diane

    1. When I came with this idea for a post I thought you would be one of those who would know -- being from Lancashire and all...

  4. If it is Carnforth I'll mention it to my son. I didn't know about the history.

He's been doing some teaching at Carnforth for one morning a week and travels by train.

    1. I don't know if it's been on the Antiques Road Trip, but it would make sense. I was sure you would be one of those who knew immediately where this very British and very iconic place would be...

  7. Dear Broad, I have no idea and so I'm eager to find out.

Just wanted you to know that after you mentioned "The Daughter of Time" by Josephine Tey
I read it this week. What a read!!! Now I'm going to check out her books from the library, one by read. But I suspect none will be as intriguing as the mystery of Richard the Third. Peace.

    1. So glad you enjoyed this unique book -- you can see why it gave me such an interest in Richard III.

    1. Look for a film -- circa 1945-46... British, of course...

  11. I'm thinking Carnforth - location of the film, "Brief Encounter". Celia Johnson and her strange twisted vowels. Did you have a cup of tea in the Refreshment Room?
