Just as well I had donned the down! Several paces from the store a sudden fierce whirlwind took hold of me and spun me around -- I was holding the coat I had been wearing earlier, which didn't help. At the same time a mixture of rain, snow and sleet lashed down upon me making it almost impossible to see. It was difficult to stay on my feet, but I did manage to make my way slowly toward the car. At last, I was nearly there only a few more seconds ...
when what to my wondering ears did I hear, but the car starting up and thrown into gear!
Horror struck and wind blown I watched as the old red Volvo wound its way to the other side of the car park to the entrance of the store I had just exited. Snow and rain and hail, not to mention wind continued to pummel me and I began to try to get to where the car now was. Then The Man saw me and slowly made his way back to where I was standing. I opened the door -- not easy in the wind and with the elements making their way into the car before me and The Man bawling me out for not waiting for him in the store like any sensible person would do!!!
I closed the car door and the wind stopped, as did the snow, as did the rain, as did the sleet. Then The Man took me to my girlfriend's house, where I had a very nice cup of tea and a delicious piece of cake!
Here are some pictures from my friends in Cape Cod where a blizzard is a blizzard:
Wind can be even more annoying and treacherous as snow. Cold winds can freeze you in seconds. I'don't have a good talk with that man of yours...
ReplyDeleteI once went skiing and didn't realize how strong the wind was. I was properly dressed with a hat covering my head and warm ski gloves. However, when I tried to ski down the slope the icy wind blew me backwards up the hill. The temperature was below zero Fahrenheit! By the time I crawled to the bottom of the slope my ears were throbbing -- I narrowly missed frostbite -- but even now my ears are very sensitive to the cold...
DeleteHe tried to do the right thing!
ReplyDeleteYes, he can be very 'trying'!
DeleteThey were nailed all right, in Massachusetts and Connecticut and on up the coast. However, being personally nailed is as awful as looking at pictures.
ReplyDeleteOuch!
DeleteThe weather has been a bit like that here today as well - the hot brew and a delicious piece of cake were just what you needed.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely perfect, Molly -- and the company of girlfriends can't be beat!
DeleteThat looks like a lot of snow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't get any this year.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had any either -- at least nothing that accumulated!
DeleteI am glad you are all right! It sounds just awful, but the ending was nice. :-)
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteWell that experience would have blown the cobwebs away! Glad you made it to the car intact!
ReplyDeleteNo more cobwebs, for sure! And the wind is still blowing!
DeleteIt sounds like you and The Man got your wires crossed, Broad! An uncomfortable experience, but you sum up our mixed-up weather perfectly. Yesterday we had rain, hail, sleet and snow showers, all with a bitingly cold wind. Today the sun has been shining. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful sunny day today -- as long as you stay indoors and observe it through the windows!
DeleteI was waiting for the splash of muddy sleet on your newly cleaned coat! Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that! And the coat is white, too!!!
DeleteBrrrr! There's nothing worse than a bad wind. The cold and snow is fine, but that wind . . .
ReplyDeleteThe thing that get me is that it's not as if you just have a windy day -- not it's more like having a windy month!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteEven the best of relationships can get the wires crossed at times!
On these windy wet days ( the wind here seems to come directly from Siberia) we hibernate indoors. Not even the lure of a down jacket would have persuaded us outdoors!
And, poor Man......not even a cup of tea and a cosy chat were waiting for him....
No, but I did get back in time to cook him dinner!
DeleteYou just can’t get it right, can you?
ReplyDeleteBoth of you trying to be considerate.
I hope it’s not too bad now; it’s pretty chilly round my end of the country.
I do love the fact that you have pointed out this was only -2 C. Your US followers will think we are pretty pathetic wont they, worrying about such temperatures. We call a blizzard anything that drops over half an inch don't we ! My winters in Wisconsin make me grateful for our warm winters....even though -2 C does feel pretty nippy, it really is nothing compared to the -27 F I recall in Milwaukee in 1985 ! Keep warm ! Jx
ReplyDeleteWow! That was some kind of a "weather event" that hit you! The TV meteorologists in my area (The Midwest in the US) like to refer to "major" snowfall or winds, etc. as a "weather event!" LOL. I'm so happy to meet you. I saw that you're a follower of Val's on "Unbagging the Cats." I thought anyone with a blog name of Abroad with a View would surely be interesting..and you are! Oh, and I'm glad you enjoyed your tea and cake! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it. This sounds like the elements targeted you specifically! Glad you ended up nice and warm at your friend's house.
ReplyDeleteLove the visual of you on the street battering the elements to get to THE MAN as he kept moving. Men!!! Why is it we always seem to be on opposite end of the thought processes??? And never the twain shall meet. Glad you got inside safe and the tea and cake was a bonus for what you went thru. So happy to have you stop by my blog. I'm not doing as much on here as I used to. Trying to get back to it. Slowly. Hugs, Barb
