Despite the sadness that caused our visit to the US we have had a very happy trip. I will write more about that another day.
It has been a lovely New England Spring day in Boston. We left my niece and her family at 4.00 to be sure of ample time for returning the car and getting booked in. En route to the airport I received a text that our flight to Paris would be delayed from 20.45 to 00.35! If there is one thing to drive The Man around the bend it is to have to wait for just about anything for even 5 minutes. Instead of arriving at Manchester Airport at 13.30 we
Will now arrive at 21.30!!!
The staff claim the delay is caused by technical problems in Paris. However, i don't believe them. I believe the flight was cancelled because they didn't have enough passengers to come close to filling the huge Airbus 380 originally scheduled to fly. Saying it is technical means they don't have to fork out compensation.
Ho-hum! And Logan Airport only offers 45 minutes of complementary wifi so I better publish while I still can!
When I flew to Amsterdam in February, my flight was delayed by an hour, but we actually arrived on time because of the jet stream. Nobody missed any of their connections because of that. I'll bet that wasn't the same with your flight. Hope you made it home all right and I'm sorry for whatever it was that brought you over here.
ReplyDeleteThat also happened to us when we flew to Amsterdam on our way to the States!
DeleteI'm at work and could have spent the day just reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyable reading...
I'm SO sorry about your Mom and Brother! SO sad...
((HUG))
Donna, thank you so much for your kind words...
DeleteOh rats, what a nuisance! Cynical me also guesses that technical reasons may not have been a strictly accurate explanation for cancellation. Hope you got home safely and not too tired.
ReplyDeleteNow in Paris just lounging around watching planes land and take off -- Still 3 hours to go before boarding -- have been here 4 1/2 hours already ... We will arrive at 9.30 p.m. Instead of 1.30 ...
DeleteCommiserations! Definitely something you can do without at the end of the holiday, especially as getting on after midnight they will want to feed you before you settle for the night.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels.
They did, indeed! But I never can 'settle' for the night on a plane. The Man, however, slept for hours...
Delete"My Life in an Airport" by The Broad A Broad. Don't be kind to Airbus, either.
ReplyDeleteI won't be!!!
DeleteThe way airlines mess with passengers' plans and commitments is unforgiveable.
ReplyDeleteThey forget how stressful and expensive air travel is and although they pretend they care, they don't.
The very first time I travelled alone by airplane the flight was cancelled both ways! I swore I would never fly BA again, and I haven't.
Jean, that sounds awful! I can't prove it, but I do suspect that a lot of times the airlines can't fill a scheduled flight and so they cancel it due to 'technical' difficulties and then move the passengers to fill in other flights.
DeleteHope you are back by now and it is all a memory!
ReplyDeleteBy the time we got back home it was May 1st!
DeleteDelays are becoming so much more common. I usually encounter some sort of delay when I travel these days.
ReplyDeleteSadly, Stephen, delays seem to be inevitable! My best flights the past few years for being on time have been with Ryan Air -- surprise, surprise! (One of Europe's budget airlines and one of the most successful. But they have been very controversial.)
DeleteHi Kathie. Hope the delay won't be as bad as it sounds. Like 'The Man' I don't like waiting ... so I fully understand your concern. Hope this won't happen to me when I fly to Corfu next month. Take care and Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAs I look out my window at the chilly windy day, I envy you that trip to Corfu!! Brrrrrr!
DeleteGlad I don't fly, and hope everything went smoothly for you.
ReplyDeleteAll's Well, That Ends Well ... as they say!
DeleteSaya dari indonesia.. salam kenal yah.. semoga sukses.:)
ReplyDeleteHi Broad, I guess you're back now.
ReplyDeleteHi, Rachel! Guess I am!
DeleteHope your trip back was uneventful after all that delay. I hate long flights; but long flights with major delays send me screaming to a bar!
ReplyDeleteRosaria, I can't imagine you screaming to a bar!!! But, I'd have loved to join you there!
