It's Almost Over

I have found it very difficult to post lately because I find the 'goings on' in the world unpleasant to tolerate! At the moment life is dominated by the referendum and while I have definite opinions about whether Britain would be better in or out, I feel it may not be my place to say -- I am not a citizen and therefore, can not vote.

I have given up watching debates and politicians. I do have a question though that I didn't hear asked. Apparently, if Britain votes to leave the EU there is a two-year period in which to decide the terms 'of the divorce'! If, however, we need longer than two years, the 27 member states can vote to give an extension to the negotiations. It has been suggested by a European official that it could actually take seven years. All 27 countries would have to agree to this extension.

Which for me begs the question... If an extension is not granted what does that mean? End of negotiation, divorce final?

The campaign has been quite brutal. I think it brought out the worst in a lot of people -- most especially some of the politicians. Whatever the outcome, I hope some wisdom prevails. The BBC thought their debate was wonderful. I didn't watch, but the clips I saw later did not look wonderful to me.

The most sensible people were those interviewed who were not there ...

So far I haven't heard anything about Trump's impending arrival -- I rather watch coverage of the referendum, thank you very much!

Anyway, God bless you, UK and the force be with you!

  1. For the sake of the world economy, I hope Britain stays in the EU, but I understand the frustration. Imagine having to live in the US where a presidential election goes on for over a year! And one that is no fun at all. :-(

    1. I'm sure nothing on earth is any nastier than an American presidential campaign.

    2. The argument about the EU has gone on ... and on .... whenever the Conservatives are in power. So the past 6 months have only been the 'official' campaign! And I just know that if 'remain' win, it will still go on ... and on ...

The US Presidential elections are insanity -- completely inhumane to the entire population ....

  3. I have no vote either and am fed up to the back teeth with the whole, ugly, show. Never have I seen ‘good’ friends massacre each other as the Tories have done.

As for Trump? Heaven preserve us.

I am not sure that Joanne is right. Sanity has long departed this globe.

  5. I really shouldn't say anything at all but the outcome does have an impact on everything. Today I saw a glimpse at the news about Cornwall. They have been receiving support for a lot of good projects, from the EU and therefore it was surprising that so many voted for Brexit. Some interviewed were sad about the outcome, others said that it was better to cope without the EU even if it meant less money.
The politicians and the debates are rather unknown to us, we just wish the best for the UK, and share your fears for whom it will be to take over the lead after Cameron. Someone strong and wise I hope for. As for Trump, I think I lack words..but I too believe that sanity will prevail.

  6. Well as you know the result is out now. Words fail me. I Something needed very much to be done but those who voted to leave probably won't get what they want, which makes it even worse.

  7. Hello over there!
Are you ok? I have just recently got to know this blog of yours and now its been quite a while since you wrote anything. The state of the world hasn't improved since your last post, it does take the most of us to cope these days and we have to rely on sane and loving people around us. Hope is still at hand, we are not abandoned but it will take time. Both with the brexit problem and many others. Blessings to you, hope you will be back soon!!!
